Adaptive Curriculum receives award from AEP

With its engaging visuals, strong interactivity and rich library of online learning activities, Adaptive Curriculum is enhancing math and science instruction for middle-grade students and teachers. The Association of Educational Publishers (AEP) has honored Adaptive Curriculum for this accomplishment with a 2008 Distinguished Achievement Award, in the Mathematics Instruction Website category for grades 6-8.

Developed by Sebit, LLC, Adaptive Curriculum offers an online library of Math and Science Activity Objects. Aligned to national and state standards, Activity Objects break educational content into interactive components that can be used in a variety of learning environments.
Online lessons use three-dimensional graphics, simulations and interactivity to help students comprehend complicated math and science concepts. Examples include planting flowers to learn about measurement, or baking cupcakes to understand percentages. By using realistic, engaging visuals and hands-on activities, Adaptive Curriculum helps students develop the knowledge and critical thinking skills they need to improve their academic performance in math and science.

“Adaptive Curriculum aims to bridge the gap between the need for high-quality learning materials and the demand for engaging and interactive instruction in math and science,” said Ahmet Eti, CEO of Sebit, LLC. “In this capacity, we are honored to partner with AEP to support the larger goal of creating excellent educational resources for learning.”

Adaptive Curriculum offers teachers an online environment that supports the entire learning and teaching process through stimulating, standards-based math and science education. To help teachers incorporate this content into their instruction, the online learning system includes MyAdaptiveSpace, which contains simple, intuitive tools for managing instruction. Adaptive Curriculum offers teachers the ability to plan their lessons, assign Activity Objects to their students, and track achievement through assessment reports.

Activity Objects may be adapted for various classroom scenarios. Educators can use the online content as part of a classroom presentation with a projector, or through an interactive whiteboard. Including both animation and interactive parts, lessons can be paused to allow educators to ask questions or to emphasize specific points during a presentation. Students also can be encouraged to participate in the activities by inviting them to complete an interaction on behalf of the class. Teachers can assign Activity Objects to students for homework or extra practice, or to challenge students with advanced skills.

The Distinguished Achievement Awards are given annually by AEP to honor the industry’s best educational materials. Submitted products undergo a rigorous two-tier judging process by a panel of educators and industry experts. Award winners earn the right to display the Lamp of Learning logo, nationally recognized by educators and administrators as a mark of outstanding quality and achievement. Founded in 1895, AEP is a nonprofit professional organization for educational publishers and content developers.

The 2008 Distinguished Achievement Awards were presented at the AEP Annual Awards Banquet and Gala on June 6, 2008, at the JW Marriott in Washington, D.C. To view the complete list of award winners, visit www.aepweb.org/awards/winners.htm.
