ASU SkySong Celebrates First Anniversary
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (April 27, 2009) -- Wii-like video games, solar power, new skate-board technology- that’s what you’ll experience at the first anniversary celebration of ASU SkySong Wednesday morning from 7:30 to 10 a.m.
Those activities represent just a few of the 44 enterprises involved in ASU SkySong, an innovation center designed to help companies grow by providing business services and programs offered or facilitated by Arizona State University.
The invitation-only morning celebration begins at 7:30 a.m., April 29, at ASU SkySong, 1475 N. Scottsdale Road (SE corner of Scottsdale and McDowell roads). More than 22 companies will be demonstrating their technologies.
Speakers include Scottsdale Mayor Jim Lane and Julia Rosen, ASU associate vice president for innovation and entrepreneurship.
“ASU SkySong is an economic development engine that is attracting companies that will create Arizona’s future jobs,” Rosen said.
Over the past year, SkySong has:
- Worked with 44 enterprises from 11 countries, including Turkey, Japan, U.K., Mexico and Singapore.
- Attracted 36 enterprises from seven countries with full-time physical presence at SkySong and employing more than 500 people.
- Introduced entrepreneurs to Arizona in high technology fields that include alternative fuels, gaming, elearning, communications and imaging.
In addition, 43 ASU students have been hired by SkySong companies.
