Mexican University Tecnológico de Monterrey creates Phoenix office at ASU SkySong
SCOTTSDALE (February 4, 2009) – ASU SkySong, the Scottsdale Innovation Center, will soon have a new occupant - the Tecnológico de Monterrey (TEC) Phoenix International Liaison Office.
Established in one of the nation’s fastest-growing regions, the TEC Phoenix International Liaison Office (Phoenix-ILO) operationalizes the internationalization strategy of Tecnológico de Monterrey in the Greater Phoenix area. The responsibilities of the Phoenix-ILO include developing internationalization initiatives and programs; following up on new and current initiatives launched within the international strategic alliances; supporting bi-national cooperation among Tecnológico de Monterrey faculty, researchers, and entrepreneurs with their counterpart parties abroad; and providing visibility to the academic, research and entrepreneurial programs offered by Tecnológico de Monterrey.
TEC establishes and operates International Liaison Offices around the globe. Current offices of this kind are located in: Barcelona, Spain; Boston; Brussels, Belgium; Dallas; Freiburg, Germany; Madrid, Spain; Montreal (Quebec) Canada; Paris, France; Vancouver (British Columbia) Canada; Washington, D.C. and Yale University in New Haven, Conn.
Julia Rosen, ASU Associate Vice President for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, said that ASU SkySong is donating incubation space for one year, to start up the Phoenix-ILO.
Other SkySong accomplishments include the first successful capital formation event, deemed “Invest Mexico,” organized in Monterrey, Mexico in fall 2008 in collaboration with TEC. Also, SkySong closed a deal with FUMEC and Mexican Ministry of Economy to bring the TechBA Arizona office to SkySong, adding to the five other TechBA offices located around the world.
“This is a great partnership and I look forward to the new relationships we will build at ASU SkySong,” said Mónica Camacho, director of the TEC International Liaison Office-Phoenix.
SkySong, the ASU Scottsdale Innovation Center, is currently home to more than 40 enterprises from 11 countries, with clusters of companies in e-learning, information communications technologies, and sustainability. ASU SkySong is an interactive business environment in which individual entrepreneurs, global and U.S. enterprises, ASU researchers, and community members connect to bring new services and technologies to the marketplace. SkySong will ultimately consist of 1.2 million square feet of research, office, residential and retail space. Higgins Development Partners and Plaza Companies are co-developers of the project in partnership with Arizona State University Foundation and USAA Real Estate Company.
